So, tell us a little bit about Aqualibria at No1 Harley Street – what do you guys do there?
We are UK’s first colon-hydrotherapy Spa. We devise detox cleansing programmes for everyone especially busy individuals. We have combined a high level of nutritional and colon health professional advice with the most comfortable equipment within a hip modern spa ambiance.
What exactly is colon-hydrotherapy?
Colon hydrotherapy, traditionally known as colonic irrigation, gently introduces warm ultra purified water through a small rectal tube. When the water is flushed out, it carries with it any waste material that has built up in the large intestine (the colon), toxins and trapped gases.
What are the benefits of having this therapy?
It reduces toxicity in the body, which has multiple effects: it helps to eliminate fat and skin conditions, reduces intolerances and allergies, alleviates joint pains and helps regulate metabolism and sleeping patterns thus helping in assisting healthy weight management as well as constantly high energy levels. Additionally, it regulates the digestive system and therefore assists in the treatment of constipation, bloating and IBS. Finally, it re-hydrates the body.
It seems to be getting more popular, with experts like Dr Gillian McKeith who sends lots of her clients to get the therapy. How often can you have colon-hydrotherapy?
Yes, everyone is getting to grips with the fact that inner beauty and health will ultimately dictate what shows on the outside. Lets face it, colonics have been around since 1500BC. Depending on the client’s needs and objectives, we recommend an initial course of treatments to compound the cleansing effects and “spring clean” the body. After this, clients come back once every 4 to 8 weeks for maintenance, again depending on their needs and objectives.
Are there any side effects and is there anyone who shouldn’t have this procedure e.g. pregnant women or patients with certain disorders?
Before taking on any new client we take a thorough medical history to make sure that there are no contraindications to the treatment. Pregnancy and recent abdominal surgeries are two of the most obvious ones. It is important to visit an adequately trained and qualified professional before undertaking colon-hydrotherapy.
Is there any discomfort during the therapy?
The treatment is normally free of any discomfort. The equipment that we use at Aqualibria (a first in the country) employs rectal tubes that are pencil size thin. All our clients find this really comfortable.
How long is the therapy? Can I get it done in my lunch hour?
The treatment itself lasts for approximately 45 minutes, and we book appointments slots of one hour. So it is possible to pop in during your lunch break. In fact, our peak times tend to be between lunch and evening hours.
How does one typically feel after the therapy? Are the effects instant?
Most of our clients experience a feeling of cleanliness, elation and an energy buzz after the treatment. Then we have the long-term effects of regular colon cleansing which result in a healthier, more efficient toxins-free body that results in slowing down the aging process as well as having increased energy levels.
Is there any truth to the nightmare tales of clients ‘leaking water’ after the therapy?
No. After the treatment you can resume your normal activities.
Are clients given advice before and after the therapy?
At Aqualibria we take this portion of our service very seriously. Every new client is given personalised advice during a one-hour consultation process prior to having the first treatment. This way we identify where colon-hydrotherapy can help the individual, and we also provide nutritional and lifestyle advice to incorporate colon-hydrotherapy's lasting benefits in one’s life by making small better choices in your diet, lifestyle or stress management.
Are all staff fully qualified?
The Aqualibria team is fully trained and certified through the International Association for Colon- Hydrotherapy, the largest body governing the profession in the world.
What other services do you have on offer at Aqualibria?
We focus solely on colon/digestive health as we believe that by specialising on one subject we can offer a superior level of service and expertise. We are in the process of being recognised as an international training facility for colon-hydrotherapists, with our first courses resuming in March 07.
How much does it cost and how does one book up?
Our regular prices are £95 for the single treatment and £35 for the initial Health and Lifestyle consultation. Prices drop to £85 when you book for six treatments or more. We advise our clients to book for an appointment as soon as they have visibility in their diary. Our centre is extremely popular and for certain times of the day we get booked up weeks if not months in advance. Evenings and weekends are very much in demand.
